Resolve.

Friends, I am alive and relatively well, something I don’t take for granted in 2020. This has been a year of struggle for many people, myself included. While I am privileged in many ways, I also suffer from certain ailments that make life harder. Stress makes those ailments worse, which enhances my stress, and thus the circle is unbroken.

But while I’ve been working doggedly to keep the quarantine from getting me down, I’ve let certain other things fall by the wayside. My website was one of the casualties. But I decided today that it’s time to change that. While I’m still at a day job that takes a lot out of me, I feel like it’s important to add to the blog to keep myself in the author mindset. In theory, it will remind me of who I am. I’m not just a desk drone. I’m a desk drone with an imagination!

Right now, I just want to write a quick post to let you know what I’m up to, then I have a family Zoom call.

Number one on my agenda every week is my story writing challenge. Each week I write a short story and send it to Dean Wesley Smith, who is running this through his Teachable site. If I can keep it up for a year, I win. If I keep it up fo six months, I also win, but the payoff is less. So far I’ve made it four weeks. That’s a win! Not to mention, every story has felt more like the start of a novel than a mere short story

I’ve got a novel in the works as well. My problem is that I haven’t been sleeping so well (stress, my dudes) and so I’m dead tired by the time I sit down to write. That means I tend to wake up to things I’ve written in my sleep that make no sense at all, enough so that they aren’t even funny. They’re just nonsense.

So what’s next? Getting these short stories out into the world. Finishing this novel about a gal who runs away to join the space circus. Getting a better schedule for myself and sticking to it so that I can work volunteering into my week.

That’s it for now. I’ve got a short story to finish by Sunday and a novel to chip away at. Writing has become almost indecently fun lately, if only I could stay alert for it!

Be well and stay safe, everyone. #BLM
